Migration Resources for Libraries

Migration / Website News (as of November):

The 2024 volumes published online to date have published Open Access through the Subscribe to Open (S2O) program. The full list is available here

PLEASE NOTE: The subscriptions list from the institutional administrator dashboard are not rendering correctly, therefore do not accurately reflect your entitlements. This is a known bug and is being addressed.
However, if you are not able to access your subscription content, please reach out to [email protected].

Behind the scenes, there are many projects being managed simultaneously, and a few technical tasks have taken more time than anticipated. Thank you for your patience. At any time, if you encounter any errors or reasons for concern, please contact [email protected].

News and updates:

  • Important COUNTER Report Information:
During our platform migration, usage and download data was transferred from our prior website to our new platform provider. Following the migration, we closely reviewed the data and discovered some inconsistencies. We have resolved the problem that occurred during the transition and have implemented an additional technical solution. Historical (2022-March 2024) item and total usage reports are now available.
To access usage reports, please log in and navigate to the Administrator Dashboard by clicking "Administration" from the top site menu:

  • From the Dashboard,  select "COUNTER 5" from the Content and Reports section. Select "Master Report / Title Report" type and you will be provided with a link to historical reports.

  • Please note: historical Title Master reports are specific to content access type (paywalled/controlled and OA articles), therefore 2 separate reports are required for each year. For complete usage, please use the total across both content types.
  • The historical SUSHI harvesting technical fix is still in process, and 2023 and/or YTD 2024 data will return an error message from your SUSHI client.
We understand how important accurate usage data is for our customers and apologize for this inconvenience. In the meantime, please utilize the Institutional Admin dashboard directly for your usage reports.

  • Additional Resources:
  • Migration Checklist for Libraries
  • KBART file for journals
  • Diagnostic page for IP info / support troubleshooting

We appreciate your continued patience during this complex and ongoing process of site improvements.

Overview:

Annual Reviews migrated its website to Ingenta Edify on March 19, 2024. We are committed to providing institutional administrators and librarians with powerful tools to manage institutional profile and branding, IP addresses and ranges, single sign-on (SSO) federated access and COUNTER 5 compliant usage statistics.

FAQs about the platform migration

How can I log in?
As soon as the migration is complete and accounts are ready, activation emails will be automatically sent to the site administrator listed on the institutional account, along with instructions to guide you through validating your administrator account. Please activate your account as soon as possible to ensure access to the institutional administrator dashboard and to familiarize yourself with the new platform. If you would like to be added to your institution’s account as an administrator, please contact [email protected]
If you are the administrator for your institution and don't receive an email, or if you are unable to log in, please contact [email protected]

Does the content redirect automatically to Annual Reviews on the new platform?
All existing information will be migrated to the new platform (DOIs, URLs, subscriptions, IP ranges, link resolvers, federated access, etc.) and permanent redirects will be in place if needed to ensure continuity of access.

Do I need to update my IP addresses on the new platform?
Your IP addresses will be migrated to the new site. After migration, if you are a member of the IP Registry, you may continue to use it to update your IP addresses. For more information about the IP Registry, please visit: https://app.theipregistry.org/Registration/OrganisationLookup.
You may also update your IPs directly on our new site after migration. To manually change or add IP addresses, please follow the instructions described here.

How will this impact usage reports?
COUNTER usage data dating back to 2022 is available. COUNTER 4 reports will be retired following the migration.

Following the migration, usage reports can be downloaded from the institutional administrator dashboard. Your usage reports can be found in the 'Content and Reports/COUNTER 5' section of the institutional administrator dashboard.

Will URLs for journal homepages or individual articles change?
The majority of our URLs will remain unchanged, and redirects are in place when needed to ensure all content can be accessed without interruption.

Are there any changes to DOIs? Is the DOI registry updated to reflect new URLs?
The DOI registry has been updated to reflect the new URLs on Ingenta, and the DOIs for journal articles have not changed.

Does my institution have access to both old and new platforms simultaneously?
Access to Annual Reviews journals will solely be available through Ingenta Edify once the migration has been completed. If you need to make changes to your institution's account prior to that date, please contact [email protected].

What do I do if my library has lost access during the transition?
Please email [email protected]. Our Customer Support team will resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

COUNTER Release 5.1 | Frequently asked questions

1) What are the differences between COUNTER R5 and R5.1?
While Release 5.1 of the COUNTER Code of Practice (CoP) differs from Release 5.0 in a few ways, the main aspects are the same.
However, the following updates will be available in R5.1:

  • Focus: Release 5.1 focuses more on items as the unit of reporting.
  • Item level metrics now use book chapters in the calculation for books resulting in higher item-level requests and investigations for books in 5.1 reports.
  • Access types: Release 5.1 has improved definitions of access types.
  • Data types: Release 5.1 has an extended list of data types.
  • SUSHI protocol: Release 5.1 has significant upgrades to the SUSHI protocol and associated JSON report structures.
  • Consortium reports: Release 5.1 covers three types of consortia reporting: mandatory summary reports, separate institutional reports, and optional detailed reports.

2) How and when can I access the new R5.1 reports?
As is the case with COUNTER R5 reports, R5.1 reports will be available in the COUNTER section of the institutional administrator dashboard.

Annual Reviews will be compliant as per COUNTER recommendation when R5.1 is released February 2025 and will include the ability to capture usage for 3-years historical up through and including Jan. 2025.

Once R5.1 is released, the COUNTER section of the institutional administrator dashboard will have a link for accessing both COUNTER 5.0 and 5.1 Reports.

3) We are already harvesting COUNTER 5 reports from a publisher via SUSHI. In order to harvest the COUNTER 5.1 reports, will we need to set up a new SUSHI connection separate from our COUNTER 5 connection?

No new connection is needed. Use your COUNTER 5.0 identifiers (API key, Requestor_ID, Customer_ID) and add /r51 to the API call to differentiate it from COUNTER 5.0 (example: https://usage.reporting/sushi/r51) SUSHI help can be found here: https://www.annualreviews.org/help/sushi
