I was born in the middle of the last year of the last century, in the city of Königsberg, the capital of East Prussia. It is now Russian and its name is Kaliningrad. I lived through the two world wars and was lucky to leave Germany in 1931 to live in Denmark, where I worked for seven years. In 1939, shortly before the outbreak of the second world war, I got the opportunity to come and settle in the United States when I was already 40 years old. My work was not unknown, but also not well known.
